Celebrity chef Andi Oliver has joined forces with an East Yorkshire lifeboat crew for her latest culinary venture.

Making her way to Bridlington, Andi embarked on filming an episode of “Fabulous Feasts,” a brand-new series premiered on Wednesday, March 27 on BBC Two. Throughout the series, Andi “uses her passion for parties to create eight fabulous feasts.”

Shot over several days in the summer of 2023, the Bridlington episode features the dedicated volunteers of the Bridlington’s RNLI crew, alongside contributions from local businesses, the Bridlington Sea Cadets, and staycationers. True to the coastal setting, the cuisine is infused with flavors inspired by the sea, with Bridlington being known as the “Lobster Capital of Europe”.

“This programme is not simply about the RNLI, but it also illustrates the various businesses in the town. Andi spoke to me in relation to my shellfish business and what it means to the town.

It is brilliant that the BBC should showcase the town in a good light, as Bridlington, like many other seaside towns, often doesn’t get the coverage it fully deserves.”

Bridlington has been served by a Lifeboat crew for over 200 years and awarded over 50 times throughout its history. The station operates both inshore and all-weather lifeboats and is just a 30-minute walk along the seafront from Bridlington’s South Beach and our very own South Shore holiday park.

The Bridlington episode of Fabulous Feasts shows later on in the series. The premiere episode features the quintessential location of Cornwall, where Andi helps to put on a feast to thank NHS staff.

Andi Oliver has gained widespread recognition for her role on the Great British Menu. With a diverse career spanning chef, singer, and television presenter, she’s graced screens on shows like The Young Ones and during Glastonbury Festival coverage. In 2023, she unveiled her book ‘The Pepperpot Diaries: Stories From My Caribbean Table’, adding author to her impressive repertoire.

“The highlight from this series, is that I think it’s really an honour to travel the country and meet people who are doing such extraordinary work.

I just feel that every town I have been to and every community that I have engaged with, I have just met people who are showing the best of themselves and show us how we can live if we do really work hard and do it right.”

Celebrity chef Tom Kerridge returned to Norwich for an evening at Carrow Road restaurant with Delia Smith

In 2017, Celebrity chef Tom Kerridge made his way back to Norwich for an evening at Delia’s, Carrow Road’s restaurant owned and inspired by famous chef and NCFC shareholder Delia Smith.

Tom Kerridge, owner of the first pub to gain a Michelin star, rose to fame when he starred on the Great British Menu in 2009 and 2010, going on to feature in and present many food programmes across the BBC and other channels. He famously lost 11 stone in 2017 and has since fronted his own Lose Weight For Food TV show and added two weight loss cooking books to his collection.

Tom is no stranger to Norwich; he was appointed his first head chef role in 2003 by David Adlard, who was the first chef to earn a Michelin star in East Anglia. Local legend Adlard’s was first established in Norwich in 1990 and stayed a firm favourite in Norfolk fine dining for 18 years, finally closing its doors in 2007 when Adlard retired and moved on to running a guesthouse.

“I think the main thing I learned from David Adlard was the understanding of making your own business work – how to drive things forward in your own way… how to make decisions that are solely yours,” Tom explains.

Tom also did a guest spot at another of Norwich’s acclaimed restaurants, Benedicts, which upholds 3 AA rosettes and was listed in the Sunday Times. Tom joined the team for one night in 2018 alongside owner Richard Bainbridge, who has had the restaurant down historic St Benedict’s since 2015, following his win on BBC2’s Great British Menu that year after a career working alongside renowned chefs such as Michel Roux Sr and Norfolk-based Galton Blackiston.

Norfolk & Suffolk’s food scene has many well-recommended eateries among its historic and beautiful landscapes, from Norwich and North Norfolk.
