Looking for places to see a romantic sunset in Norfolk?

We don’t think there are many sights more beautiful than a summer sunset. Particularly during the months when the evening lasts a little longer, you can sit out on a warm night and watch the sun sink into the sea, leaving a beautiful glow in its shadow. It really is the perfect evening activity!

Norfolk is known for its “big skies”, with some incredible views of sunrises all over the East coast. There are some particular spots where you can catch a beautiful, and romantic sunset.

Here are five of our favourite sunset spots:

1. Old Hunstanton Beach

One of the most popular sunset spots in Norfolk has to be Old Hunstanton Beach, which is just a beautiful in the day as it is night.

The fine golden sand provides a comfortable seat for you to perch upon to feel the full enjoyment of the sunset, unlike the pebbly main beach at Hunstanton. This area is also nicely sheltered, so immerse yourself in the tranquillity of this beautiful area whilst watching the sunset this summer.

Did you know Hunstanton is the only west-facing coast in Norfolk? That makes it a prime location for romantic sunsets in the west.

2. Cromer Pier

You will never tire of the sight of this 112-year-old seaside attraction; Cromer Pier offers a perfectly picturesque location which is popular with those interested in photography as the composition sells itself. Take a wander around the Pavillion Theatre and enjoy the seaside charm that comes along with this lovely location as the sun sets over the sea.

Cromer Pier usually hose Sunset Sessions in the summer, a free event with Ibiza classics and food and drinks to purchase, all whilst watching the sunset to the West of the pier.

3. Breydon Water

Sunset at Breydon Water, Great Yarmouth

One of the largest estuarys across the Broads, Breydon Water is where the sea meets the broads in Great Yarmouth and also the site of RSPB Berney Marshes and Breydon Water.

The sunsets at Breydon Water are a sight to behold, which drivers can often sample on a clear night whilst heading over Breydon Bridge. One of Great Yarmouth’s kept secrets, you can turn off left right before the bridge when heading towards the Acle Straight and park up, before wandering over the footpaths to the waters edge for some fantastic sunsets at the right time of year.

Just down the road from Breydon Water, you can find our parks Caldecott Hall Country Park and Waveney River Centre, both giving an opportunity to enjoy the Broads whenever you want with a UK holiday home.

4. How Hill

Situated within the Broads National Park, How Hill was once the home of a 1963 Olympic gold medalist, and is now an environmental learning area where you can take a tour through the water in the ‘Electric Eel’ boat, giving you the opportunity to and see a sight not accessible from anywhere else! A postcard-worthy site is the How Hill windmill at sunset, the backdrop and foreground make an idealistic holiday setting which will leave you in awe of the tranquil environment.

5. Brancaster Beach

As you head along the West Norfolk coast from Hunstanton, you’ll find the quieter charm of Brancaster Beach, with its sweeping sands and natural dunes.

At low tide, the sea reveals wide mudflats and sandbanks — a haven for birdlife and part of a landscape cared for by the National Trust. It’s a peaceful spot with a long history of shellfish farming, and one of the best places on the coast to watch truly unforgettable sunsets.
