Calde Cote (“cold hut”)

Caldecott Hall Country Park, set within the historic parish of Fritton and St Olaves, has roots recorded as far back as the Domesday Book.

By the 13th century, it was known as Caldecott, its name derived from the Old English Calde Cote (“cold hut”). Owner Henry Caldecot is believed to have taken his surname from the estate. A licence for a market and fair hints at its rising significance.

Grade II Listed Barns

In the 15th century, the manor belonged to the family of Sir John Fastolf, a prominent knight of the Hundred Years’ War and inspiration for Shakespeare’s Falstaff.

The estate also features in the famous Paston Letters, which detail a fierce inheritance dispute. Over the following centuries, Caldecott Hall evolved into a thriving agricultural estate, with two 17th-century barns now housing the indoor swimming pool and Barn1 Bar and Restaurant.

The Friesian

Relaxed, modern lifestyle

The current hall was built in the 19th century, and many of the surrounding barns—now forming The Stables—also date from this period.

Today, the estate combines historic character with contemporary comfort, offering modern holiday homes, peaceful rural surroundings, and access to superb on-site facilities. The Stables provides a unique opportunity to enjoy a relaxed, modern lifestyle while being part of a landscape shaped by centuries of heritage.
